Ripley AF — FAQ & Setup Guide
Practical setup, common questions, and support info for the Ripley AF.
General FAQs
- The Ripley AF is designed to deliver the same fast, playful feel as the carbon Ripley but in a tough aluminum package, with 130 mm rear travel and 140 mm front travel.
- It handles tight trails with responsive, progressive geometry while remaining stable at speed — all with internal frame storage and flip chip flexibility allowing mixed (MX) wheel setups.
Ripley AF setup recommendations focus primarily on suspension sag and damping settings. Precise instructions vary by shock and fork model, but a few general principles apply:
- Fork sag: Approximately 18–25% of travel (e.g., ~25 mm–35 mm on a 140 mm fork) with gear on and standing in your normal riding position before compressing the fork further.
- Rebound & compression: Adjust rebound and compression damping to rider preference, starting from the manufacturer’s baseline then fine-tuning by feel.
- Shock sag: Around 25–30% of rear travel is recommended for balanced performance.
- These suggestions are a starting point — rider weight, terrain, and riding style should influence final tuning.
Torque Specs & Maintenance
Torque specifications and maintenance tips are provided in the official Ripley AF setup documents:
- Lower link preload bolts: ~2 Nm, with threadlocker and grease as recommended.
- Lower link pinch bolts: ~10 Nm.
- Shock mount bolts: ~20 Nm with proper thread treatment.
- Brake caliper mounting: ~6 Nm with threadlocker.
- Seat binder torque: ~5 Nm (Ti anti-seize recommended).
- Apply a quality grease (e.g., Slick Honey) to all suspension pivot bushings during reassembly. Cable Routing Notes
For internal cable routing (shifter, brake hose, dropper post), Ibis provides a detailed internal guide showing:
- Preparation and opening of internal cable ports around the downtube and chainstay.
- Routing of shift and brake housing through internal guides to prevent rattling.
- Dropper post cable routing through integrated internal tunnels, secured with ferrules.
Brake hose routing includes careful routing through internal tabs and securing with zip ties to prevent interference with suspension movement.
